Outdoor Patio & Garden Flooring

Sprung Gym Flooring's outdoor range covers the three things people actually do with garden floors: make a patio safer and softer, build a garden gym or play area, and cover ground that turns to mud every winter. Everything here is rubber built for British weather — frost-proof, UV-stable, and drains rather than puddles.

What can you lay outdoor rubber tiles on?

Existing patios and slabs are ideal — tiles go straight down and transform hard, slippery stone into a warm, grippy surface. Decking works too and gains slip resistance in the wet. On grass or soil, choose the heavier tiles or rubber pavers which sit stable on firm ground, or grass protection mats where you want the lawn to survive underneath. The one base to avoid is loose gravel — nothing sits flat on it.

Will it survive winter?

Yes — that's the point of rubber outdoors. Sprung's outdoor tiles are frost-proof and UV-stabilised, water drains through the joints rather than pooling, and the surface stays grippy in rain and ice where stone turns lethal. They also don't rot, warp or need sealing, which is the honest advantage over timber decking as it ages.

Garden gyms and outdoor training

A garden training space wants the same logic as an indoor one, weatherproofed: 20mm+ outdoor rubber under equipment, outdoor gym flooring for dedicated training zones, and artificial turf strips for sled and sprint work. For a hot tub going onto the same patio, the load spreads differently — that's what hot tub mats are engineered for.

Looking after it

Brush or hose it down; that's the maintenance. Autumn leaves lift off the drained surface rather than composting into it, and individual tiles replace in minutes if one ever gets damaged — a repair story no poured or paved surface can match.

FAQs

What is the best flooring for a garden or patio area? Rubber tiles over existing hard surfaces for safety and comfort; pavers on firm open ground; grass mats where the lawn stays. Choose by what's underneath, not by the photo.

Can you put rubber tiles straight on grass? Lighter tiles and grass mats, yes, on firm level lawn. Heavier permanent installations want a firm base underneath to stay flat and drain.

Do outdoor rubber tiles fade or crack? Sprung's outdoor range is UV-stabilised and frost-proof — colours mellow slightly over years in full sun, but the tiles don't crack, curl or rot the way timber and cheap plastics do.

Are rubber patio tiles slippery when wet? No — grip in the wet is the main reason people cover stone patios with them. The textured surface and through-joint drainage keep them usable year-round.

FAQ - Garden Tiles UK

Can rubber flooring withstand wet weather?

Yes, our Outdoor Rubber tiles have built-in drainage channels at the base of each tile.  They are also heavy duty rubber in thicknesses from 30mm upwards which are designed to endure rain, frost and varying temperatures.

Will rubber mats become hot in summer?

Rubber mats may become as hot as a concrete path or lawn in very warm temperatures but they will not be any hotter than other outdoor surfaces in the same conditions.

How do I clean backyard tile flooring?

The tiles can be hosed down or mopped with water and a neutral cleaner (if preferred) then left to dry.

Rubber patio tiles are a fantastic choice for flooring over concrete. Alongside being versatile, durable and easy to maintain, they also provide comfort and safety with anti-slip properties. Rubber patio flooring can easily be fitted over concrete to provide a smooth and even surface to walk and exercise on.Outdoor flooring, by its nature, will get dirty, but outdoor rubber flooring is one of the easiest to clean and maintain. Unlike other flooring materials, rubber doesn’t need to be consistently washed or cared for to last a long time. They can simply be washed, brushed or hosed down to keep them in top condition. Plus, the non-porous rubber won’t absorb any moisture, which means no mould or bacteria buildup. Check out our cleaning guide for more information.Absolutely! Are there certain garden flooring ideas that work best in wet climates?

Absolutely, certain materials fare better in wet climates. Rubber garden tiles in particular are ideal for wet climates. They possess built-in drainage channels at the base that effectively manage water. These heavy-duty tiles, with thicknesses starting from 30mm, can endure rain, frost, and changing temperatures, making them perfect for rainy or wet climates.

Will outdoor patio tiles still provide comfort even in warm summer temperatures?

Yes, outdoor patio tiles, specifically those made from rubber, provide excellent comfort even in high temperatures. While rubber tiles can become as hot as concrete or lawn in extreme heat, they will not exceed the temperature of other outdoor surfaces. Their anti-slip properties make them safe for use even in summer conditions when surfaces can potentially become slippery due to perspiration or direct exposure to sunlight.

What are some innovative patio flooring options for outdoor spaces?

There are quite a few innovative patio flooring options for outdoor spaces. A standout choice is rubber patio tiles, which are suitable for flooring directly over concrete. Along with being versatile and durable, they are comfortable, safe due to their anti-slip properties, and easy to maintain. They are also weather-resistant and can withstand frost and extreme temperatures. Most of our rubber flooring options can be fitted without the need for separate underlay, offering a smooth, even surface for walking and exercising.
