Why is it important to choose suitable Netball Court Surfaces?

A good sports surface is crucial for netball, as it directly impacts the safety, performance, and overall experience of players. Whether the game is played indoors or outdoors, the quality of the court surface can influence the players' ability to move efficiently, make quick turns, and execute jumps, all of which are essential to netball's fast-paced nature.

An uneven, slippery, or hard surface can increase the risk of injuries, such as sprains, strains, and falls, which can not only affect individual players but also disrupt the flow of the game. Therefore, selecting the right type of surface for netball is fundamental for both player protection and performance.

Indoor Netball Flooring Types

For indoor netball, the most popular flooring options are engineered or solid wood flooring, usually installed onto a sprung undercarriage system.  This type of sports floor cushions joints during high-impact movements like jumping and landing, offering excellent shock absorption and reducing the risk of injury and fatigue over extended play periods.  Players can confidently execute agile movements without fear of slipping, providing a safe and effective environment for training and competition.

Outdoor Netball Court Solutions

Outdoor netball courts need to be durable to withstand varying weather conditions and provide adequate grip to prevent accidents.   Our modular sports tiles are designed to endure external conditions while delivering a non-slip high performance playing surface with optimal traction.   Unlike hard surfaces which can increase the impact on player's joints, leading to injuries over time, our shock absorbent tile system adds a layer of protection against joint and muscle strain.

FAQ - Netball Surfaces

What type of wood Netball court options do you supply?

We offer Boen Boflex Stadium and Boflex Olympia which are industry led multipurpose sports flooring systems with an A4 category rating.  Versatile and widely used in sports centres, schools and universities, Boflex is an internationally recognised sports system for Netball, Football and Basketball.

Is Vinyl flooring a good option for Netball?

Yes vinyl sports flooring is a commonly used surface for indoor Netball.  It allows for all the same benefits as wood sports flooring although can be more difficult to maintain.  If a vinyl floor becomes damaged, it can be costly to spot repair meaning an entire floor may need to be replaced.

How do you add Netball markings to an outdoor netball court?

The majority of sports pitches and courts are painted after the surface has been installed, usually using professional court line paint and equipment.  We offer a completely pre-painted court which is done 'in factory' then dismantled and reassembled on site.  Other methods include using sport line tape which can be cost-effective but less durable and very difficult to remove once the tape begins to peel and wear.

What types of material are used for outdoor netball courts?

Outdoor netball courts often use acrylic or asphalt surfaces. The acrylic surface is known for its durability and provides excellent shock absorption to prevent injuries in the players. On the other hand, asphalt surfaces are highly durable and cost-effective, commonly used in parks and public sports facilities.

How long does an outdoor netball court last?

The life expectancy of an outdoor netball court largely depends on the quality of the materials used and the maintenance it receives. Generally, an asphalt netball court lasts around 10-15 years, while acrylic courts typically last up to 10 years. Proper maintenance like regular cleaning, repainting lines and timely repairs can significantly increase the lifespan of the court.

Which is better for a netball court - wood or vinyl flooring?

Both wood and vinyl flooring are widely used for netball courts and each has its advantages. Wood floors offer a traditional look and feel, provide excellent ball bounce, and are suitable for multi-purpose sports facilities. Vinyl flooring, while also offering good ball bounce, is durable, low maintenance, and less expensive in comparison. However, damages to vinyl flooring can be expensive to repair. The choice between wood and vinyl flooring comes down to factors like budget, desired aesthetics, and maintenance capabilities.
