Best Rubber Gym Flooring in 2027: The Buyer's Shortlist

The best rubber gym flooring for most UK home gyms is the 20mm PRO Rubber Gym Flooring Tile. It costs £34.95 per 1m² tile, is rated for weight drops up to 140kg, and carries a 10-year warranty. We supply flooring to 55,000+ UK home gyms, and this shortlist compares six rubber options on weight-drop rating, price per m², format and warranty. You'll find lighter choices for cardio, thicker tiles for heavy lifting, and a seamless roll for large rooms. Every price below is our current UK price.

Key takeaways

  • 20mm is the safe default. The 20mm PRO tile handles weight drops up to 140kg and costs £34.95 per m². It covers mixed weights, machines and functional work without over-spending on thickness.
  • Go thinner only for cardio and machines. The 15mm PRO tile (£30.39 per m², 110kg drops) suits bikes, rowers and lighter dumbbells. Jet Black rolls from 4mm to 10mm are the lowest cost per m² for large low-impact areas.
  • Go thicker only if you drop heavy barbells. The 30mm heavy-duty tile is rated to 200kg drops, and the 43mm PRO Anti-Shock tile to 250kg.
  • Tiles vs rolls is about the room. 1m × 1m tiles are easy to handle and replace one at a time. 1m × 10m rolls give fewer seams across big floors.
  • Warranty and delivery are the same across the range. Rubber tiles, rolls and mats carry a 10-year warranty (delamination and wear-and-tear cracking excluded; full terms). UK delivery is free on orders over £300.

What rubber gym flooring is (and what it is not)

Rubber gym flooring is a dense surface made from recycled rubber granules bonded together. It is sold as tiles, rolls or mats and laid over a solid sub-floor to protect it from dropped weights and heavy equipment, while giving you a stable, non-slip surface to train on. Most of the Sprung range is recycled SBR rubber bonded with PU, and our PRO tiles use granules from 70% truck tyres. The Konnecta Velvet range adds a fine EPDM top layer (70% EPDM, 30% SBR) for a smoother finish.

It is sold by thickness, and thickness is the decision that matters most. Thin rolls (4–10mm) protect floors under cardio machines and light training. Mid-range tiles (15–20mm) handle general free weights. Thick tiles (30mm and up) absorb barbell drops. Each product has a published maximum weight-drop rating, so you can match the floor to your heaviest drop rather than guessing.

What it is not:

  • It isn't foam. EVA foam tatami mats are softer and lighter, and suit martial arts, stretching and kids' play. They are not designed to take dropped weights.
  • It isn't a sprung timber sports floor. Despite our name, sprung timber floors are for indoor courts and dance, not weights rooms.
  • It isn't a lifting platform by default. A 20mm tile protects your floor from everyday drops, but heavy Olympic lifting needs a thicker anti-shock zone.
  • It isn't a service. Sprung is supply-only: we deliver the flooring and you lay it. Our tiles are loose laid, cut with a utility knife and need no specialist tools. The sub-floor must be level, firm and dry.

How we ranked these rubber gym floors

We scored every product in our rubber range on five measurable criteria, using the figures published on each product page:

  1. Maximum weight-drop rating (kg): the heaviest drop the product is rated for.
  2. Price per m² (£): tiles are priced per 1m² tile; rolls are 10m² each, so we divide by 10.
  3. Thickness and format: thickness in mm, tile or roll, and tile size.
  4. Warranty length: 10 years across rubber tiles, rolls and mats.
  5. Published test data: density, slip resistance and fire classification, where the product page states them.

We then matched each product to the training type it handles best. Where a figure isn't published, we say so rather than estimate.

The best rubber gym flooring in 2027

Six products made the shortlist, from 4mm rolls to 43mm anti-shock tiles. They are ranked by how many UK home gym buyers each one suits, best all-rounder first. All six are supplied by Sprung, delivered free in the UK on orders over £300, and covered by our 10-year warranty. Pick by your heaviest weight drop first, then by budget and room size.

1. 20mm PRO Rubber Gym Flooring Tile: best for all-round home gyms

The 20mm PRO is our most popular tile and the one we point most home gym buyers to first. It sits in the middle of the PRO series (11mm to 60mm) and is rated for weight drops up to 140kg. That covers dumbbells, kettlebells, benches, racks and functional training.

  • Price: £34.95 per tile (1 tile = 1m²), SKU SPR20
  • Weight drop: up to 140kg
  • Material: 100% recycled premium SBR rubber with a binder adhesive chosen to prevent strong odours
  • Surface: smooth, non-slip top layer with bevelled edges
  • Certification: REACH and CE certified
  • Ramps: matching 20mm edge ramps are sold separately (£28.03)
  • Warranty: 10 years

At £34.95 per m², a typical 3m × 3m home gym (9 tiles) costs £314.55, which clears the £300 free-delivery threshold.

Best for: home and garage gym owners who mix free weights, machines and functional work. Limitation: if you regularly drop loaded barbells above 140kg, step up to 30mm or 43mm.

Shop the 20mm PRO tile

2. 15mm PRO Rubber Gym Flooring Tile: best for cardio and machine areas

The 15mm PRO uses the same build as the 20mm in a thinner, lower-cost tile. It is rated for weight drops up to 110kg and comfortably supports bikes, trainers and rowers, plus moderate weight training.

  • Price: £30.39 per m², SKU SPR15
  • Size: 1000mm × 1000mm, bevel edge
  • Weight drop: up to 110kg
  • Material: recycled SBR rubber granules from 70% truck tyres, bonded with PU, low VOC
  • Test data: slip resistance dry ≤105 PTV / wet ≤75 PTV (PN-EN 13036-4); abrasion ≤560mg (EN ISO 5470-1); density 950–1,000kg/m³; fire classification Efl S1
  • Ramps: 15mm edge ramp £24.61
  • Warranty: 10 years

It is £4.56 per m² cheaper than the 20mm tile.

Best for: cardio rooms, spin and rower areas, and lighter mixed training. Limitation: choose it only if you're sure you won't move on to heavier drops later.

3. 30mm Heavy-Duty Gym Flooring Tile: best for barbell and functional training

Our 30mm heavy-duty tile (SKU SPR30) is the step up for anyone who drops loaded barbells. It is rated for weight drops up to 200kg, with a bulk density of 1,050kg/m³ for shock absorption and sound insulation.

  • Price: £46.54 per tile (1000mm × 1000mm)
  • Weight drop: up to 200kg
  • Material: recycled SBR from 70% truck tyres, bonded with PU; metal-free; low VOC
  • Test data: slip dry ≤105 / wet ≤75 PTV; fire classification Efl S1
  • Ramps: 30mm edge ramp £31.34
  • Warranty: 10 years

It costs £11.59 more per m² than the 20mm tile. Many buyers lay 30mm only in the lifting zone and 20mm elsewhere.

Best for: garage gyms built around a rack and barbell, and functional or HIIT boxes. Limitation: it's more than most cardio-only rooms need.

4. 43mm PRO Anti-Shock Rubber Tile: best for heavy lifting zones

The 43mm PRO Anti-Shock tile is the thickest tile on this shortlist and is rated for weight drops up to 250kg. A slip-resistant top layer, ultra-dense core and studded underside add stability and impact protection, and the studs create a built-in moisture channel for damper areas.

  • Price: £70.75 per tile (1000mm × 1000mm, so £70.75 per m²), SKU SPR40
  • Weight drop: up to 250kg
  • Profile: bevel edge with studded underside
  • Material: recycled SBR rubber granules from 70% truck tyres, bonded with PU
  • Test data: slip dry ≤105 / wet ≤75 PTV; abrasion ≤560mg; density 950–1,000kg/m³; fire classification Efl S1
  • Ramps: 43mm edge ramp £37.80
  • Warranty: 10 years

The PRO series continues to 50mm and 60mm anti-shock tiles for the most demanding drop areas.

Best for: lifters who train Olympic lifts or heavy deadlifts at home, plyometrics and commercial free-weight zones. Limitation: at roughly double the price of the 20mm tile per m², it's overkill outside a dedicated lifting area.

5. Jet Black Rubber Flooring Roll: best for large rooms and a seamless look

Rolls are the lowest-cost way to cover a big floor with few seams. The Jet Black roll is 1m wide × 10m long (10m² per roll) in four thicknesses.

  • Price per roll (10m²): 4mm £146.62 (£14.66/m²) · 6mm £199.82 (£19.98/m²) · 8mm £273.16 (£27.32/m²) · 10mm £313.44 (£31.34/m²)
  • Material: 100% recycled SBR bonded with PUR, approx 980kg/m³
  • Shock absorption: 6mm 15.7%, 8mm 17.4%, 10mm 18.5%
  • Slip: Class R10 (DIN 51130)
  • Uses: cardio, functional training, low to medium impact weights
  • Warranty: 10 years

A single 10mm roll (£313.44) clears the free-delivery threshold on its own.

Best for: studios, PT spaces and large home gyms focused on cardio and lighter training. Limitation: rolls aren't designed for barbell drops, so pair them with a tile zone if you lift heavy.

6. 20mm Konnecta Velvet Black: best premium finish

Konnecta Velvet Black is our premium self-locking tile. Hidden plastic connectors hold each tile in place under high-impact activity, and the fine-granule velvet top layer gives a smooth, soft finish with a natural sheen.

  • Price: £107.17 per tile (1000mm × 1000mm); edge ramp £53.96; corner £54.91
  • Weight drop: up to 140kg
  • Material: 70% recycled EPDM / 30% recycled SBR; binder-only for an odourless tile
  • Laying: interlocked with connectors, loose laid or glued; cut with a utility knife
  • Lead time: made to order, approx 7–10 working days
  • Warranty: 10 years

Best for: premium home gyms and studios where the floor is on show. Limitation: it has the same 140kg rating as the 20mm PRO at about three times the price, so you're paying for the finish and locking system.

FAQ

What is the best rubber gym flooring for a home gym?

For most UK home gyms, the best rubber gym flooring is a 20mm rubber tile such as our 20mm PRO tile, rated for weight drops up to 140kg at £34.95 per m². Go to 30mm or thicker only if you regularly drop heavy barbells.

How thick should rubber gym flooring be?

Match the thickness to your heaviest drop. Our 15mm PRO tile is rated to 110kg, the 20mm PRO tile to 140kg, the 30mm heavy-duty tile to 200kg and the 43mm PRO Anti-Shock tile to 250kg. Rolls of 4mm to 10mm suit cardio and light training.

What is the difference between rubber gym tiles and rolls?

Tiles come in 1m × 1m pieces that are easy to handle and replace one at a time. Rolls are 1m × 10m and give fewer seams across large rooms, at a lower price per m².

How much does rubber gym flooring cost per m² in the UK?

Across this shortlist, prices run from £14.66 per m² (4mm Jet Black roll) to £107.17 per m² (20mm Konnecta Velvet Black). Our 20mm PRO tile is £34.95 per m². UK delivery is free on orders over £300.

Can I lay rubber gym tiles myself?

Yes. Our rubber tiles are DIY-friendly: they are loose laid on a level, firm, dry sub-floor and cut with a utility knife, with no specialist tools needed. Sprung is supply-only, so we deliver the flooring and you lay it.

What warranty comes with Sprung rubber flooring?

Rubber tiles, rolls and mats carry a 10-year warranty; gym equipment carries 4 years. Delamination and wear-and-tear cracking are excluded. Full terms are on our warranty page.

What rubber flooring works under heavy barbell drops?

Choose 30mm or thicker. Our 30mm heavy-duty tile is rated to 200kg drops and the 43mm PRO Anti-Shock tile to 250kg drops.

Is rubber gym flooring smelly?

New rubber can have an odour at first. Our PRO tiles use a binder adhesive chosen to prevent strong odours, and the Konnecta Velvet range is made with a binder-only formula for an odourless tile.
