When installing an astroturf, it’s essential that you align your needs with the right product. In recent years, astroturf has grown massively in popularity. Astroturf : Sports Surface Solution

Outdoor Artificial Grass Football Pitch

Although astro is commonly used to refer to artificial grass, it’s actually a product name developed by a US company in the 60s. Nowadays, most people refer to sports pitches and artificial grass playing fields when using the term astroturf.

One type of artificial grass often used for football, hockey, and rugby is 3G artificial sports turf. This type of artificial grass flooring uses sand and rubber infill to create a playing surface that mimics the look and feel of natural grass.

5 Tops Tips for Installing Astroturf

If you’re considering installing astroturf, you need to consider a few things before making your final decision and getting a quote for the installation. Here are five tips for installing artificial grass so you get it right the first time.

1. Make a Plan

Artificial grass is a quick and economical solution for sports facilities and pitches. Maintenance is relatively easy, and you can avoid big mud pile-ups after a rainy spell. But, it does require some expertise and planning to create a smooth and natural-looking appearance. When planning your installation, think about your space and use. Measure out how much artificial grass you need and purchase the right amount.

2. Ground Preparation is Key

Before installing artificial grass, you need to prepare the ground. You need a smooth, even and dry surface to create the best finish, and that starts with ground preparation. Look for any uneven surfaces and consider the existing surface. In some cases, you can overlay the new astroturf straight over the existing surface, but you will need to assess your existing surface and prepare the ground accordingly.

3. Remove Existing Turf

If you’re existing artificial grass has come to the ends of its life, it’s common to upgrade it with the latest technology and install a 3G artificial grass sports pitch. In this case, you would need to rip up the existing artificial grass and fully resurface it with new 3G grass. Your new pitch will be designed to a higher specification, so the existing ground will need to meet those requirements in terms of drainage and construction.

4. Create an Even Surface

An essential part of the installation process is creating an even surface. If you need to install a shock-absorbing layer to minimise injuries from falls, this is another step you will need to consider. The ground should be completely even before laying artificial grass. An uneven surface could hinder the final result.

5. Think about Maintenance

Although maintenance of artificial grass requires less effort than natural grass, it does require some ongoing care. You should maintain the grass over its lifetime to keep it looking and performing at optimum levels. You will need to regularly remove any debris on the 3G grass and brush the grass in the opposite direction to the synthetic grass fibres. A regular brushing and cleaning routine will ensure your pitch stays looking its best.

Artificial grass can create a safe, durable, and long-lasting playing surface. It’s important that you follow a high-quality installation process to make the most out of your 3G artificial grass. Proper drainage, shock-absorbing layers, and correct installation are crucial to creating a natural-looking and performance-enhancing sports pitch.
